Santa Gema Galgani, also known as Saint Gemma Galgani, was an Italian mystic and a Catholic saint. She was born on March 12, 1878, in Camigliano, Tuscany, Italy, and was the second of eight children. She experienced the stigmata, or bodily wounds corresponding to the wounds on the crucified Christ, which she claimed were given to her by Jesus.
Despite facing opposition, Saint Gemma devoted her life to God and lived a life of intense prayer and mortification. She was known for her deep love for the Eucharist and her strong devotion to the Passion of Jesus Christ. She died on April 11, 1903, at the age of 25 due to tuberculosis.
Saint Gemma was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1940 and her feast day is celebrated on April 11. She is venerated as a patron saint of students, pharmacists, and those suffering from back pain, headaches, and temptations. Her life and teachings continue to inspire many Catholics around the world.
